PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria Police have been investigating the city’s 19th homicide of the year following a shooting reported overnight.
Officers say the initial report came in around 12:54 a.m. Saturday of a person shot off South Greenlawn and West Ann Street in South Peoria.
A release issued Saturday says despite the best efforts of responding officers, local fire and AMT paramedics, the 25-year-old gunshot victim could not be saved.
Police called a K-9 unit to the scene to search for suspects or other evidence, but came back negative with results.
Patrol officers and detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division canvassed the area for info also collecting camera coverage in the area.
The incident remains under investigation and we expect to learn more from the Peoria County Coroner’s office once all notifications are made and an autopsy is done.
