Mets broadcaster Keith Hernandez to miss rest of regular season after falling, injuring shoulder
The New York Mets have one of the most consistently entertaining broadcasts in Major League Baseball with Gary Cohen and longtime first basemen Keith Hernandez calling their games.
They will be without half of that duo for the remainder of the regular season after Hernandez injured his shoulder by taking a fall in Manhattan earlier this week.
Cohen mentioned on Friday's broadcast that Hernandez suffered a complete tear of a tendon in his shoulder after falling off a curb on Wednesday.
“He was walking down the street in Manhattan on Wednesday night and he went to step on a curb,” said Cohen during the broadcast on Friday night.
“He was holding his phone in one hand and his glasses on the other hand and he didn’t quite make the curb and he fell. Protected the phone, protected the glasses. And fell directly on his shoulder where he suffered a complete tear of a tendon in his shoulder and is going to require surgery next week.”
Hernandez spent 17 years in the major leagues, including seven with the Mets. He won the 1986 World Series with the team and has spent several years as a broadcaster for the club.
