After a two-year layoff, The Crown is ready to reign again.
Season 5 of Netflix‘s royal family biopic will premiere Wednesday, Nov. 9, the streamer announced Saturday at Netflix’s “Tudum” global fan event. The new season brings with it a changing of the guard as well: Imelda Staunton takes over for Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth II, with Jonathan Pryce taking over for Tobias Menzies as Elizabeth’s husband Prince Philip. Dominic West will play Prince Charles, with Elizabeth Debicki as his estranged wife Princess Diana. (We saw a brief teaser with West and Debicki as Charles and Di as the news broke that the royal couple were officially separating.)
Netflix also released a poster for the new season that hints at more strife for the royal family, with an unmistakable crack appearing on the otherwise immaculate walls of Buckingham Palace. Check it out below:
The Crown last aired in November 2020, with Season 4 pulling off a rare feat, winning the Emmy for best drama series along with wins in all four major acting categories for Colman, Menzies, Josh O’Connor as Prince Charles and Gillian Anderson as Margaret Thatcher. The series now takes on a fresh significance as well with the recent passing of Queen Elizabeth II, who died earlier this month; production on Season 6 of The Crown was paused “out of respect” for the monarch’s legacy.
What are you hoping to see in The Crown‘s new season? Tell us in the comments.
I thought they would release it on a Sunday again huh
My comment about The Voice. I loved this show and have never missed an episode in all these years. Now I refuse to watch it. The first and second episodes of this season focused too much on the judges and their silly banter and less on the contestants. The whole vibe around the judges was awful. When the new judge talked so much that John Legend couldn’t do his pitch to the contestant, that’s when the show ended for me.
You do realize this is an article about season 5 of The Crown and has nothing to do with The Voice, right?
I’m so glad there is a new Queen. Olivia Colman was a terrible fit in that role!!
I wish and hope that the new season will be truthful and thorough, respecting the memory of the late Diana Princess of Wales and represent her sons with accuracy and loyalty. In spite of the fact that Prince Charles is the successor of her mother HM the late Queen, this fact will not change the real history
The monarchy is bigly mad with this upcoming release. The attacks and lies they’re telling the UK media to unleash on Harry and Meghan over and over again to deflect from the truth about this royal mess of a family are going to be met with some strong counterattacks. If Charles and the Monarchy think they deserve respect from the people they better start learning how to respect others as well. This stuck-up and very unpleasant Monarchy should be abolished anyway.
Firstly I live in the UK,I am not a royalist, but let’s be honest we don’t know what goes on behind royal doors. You don’t know what lies or truths are being told. Her late Majesty was a very private person and telling UK media or any media about anything was certainly not in her ‘things to do’. Unlike Harry and Meghan, the need to tell all to a chat show host or write a 4 book deal was not something she did. We were not privy to anything she felt we didn’t need to know.
What I can say is that the world united behind the family on the announcement that the Queen had passed away. Abolish the monarchy? On the strength of the 10 days I witnessed, that won’t happen in my life time or yours.
Noah f-king Solloway is now Prince Charles… Interesting! 🤨
