Dodgers News: Justin Turner Hopes to ‘Continue Playing for a Long Time’
Age is just a construct in the world of professional sports. When you reach anything past 35 years old, you are considered ancient and chances are you will be out of the league within the next few seasons.
Justin Turner has reached the age of no return, but yet he has been a cornerstone for the most successful team in the MLB this season. Appearing in 122 games this season and accumulating 13 home runs with 81 RBI’s and 126 hits on a .281 batting average comes at no surprise for a professional like Turner.
Arguably even less surprising is Turner believing he has a lot left in the tank despite being 37 years old. The All-Star spent time with AM570’s Dave Vassegh earlier this week to talk about his work with Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, among other things.
“Yeah, it’s so easy to point at age, right? And you look at guys all over the league who are struggling who aren’t 37. What’s the excuse for them, right? That’s just the easiest thing to point out for me and I still feel like there’s a lot in the tank. I feel like I’ve shown, especially over these last few months that there’s a lot in the tank and I hope to continue playing for a long time.”
The 14 year veteran still seems to be near the top of his game considering he had made his second All-Star appearance just one year prior. Luckily for Turner, he finds himself in a very fortunate situation playing alongside some of the league’s best players.
As long as Turner continues to pull his own weight as he has all season long, there’s no doubt Turner will continue to make an impact until the end of the season and find himself on a roster again next season.
