How is it possible that we find “entertainment” in such a needless excessive waste

Re “Sky’s the limit” (Sept. 22): Your photo on the front page of the local section promoting the upcoming Miramar Airshow is an unfortunate endorsement of this event. How much jet propellant-5 will be used for the entertainment of others to the detriment of the Earth’s climate?

The argument that this is necessary for training just doesn’t hold water, to say nothing of the wasted gasoline in the cars traveling to, waiting for, and attending this event.

Your photo on the front page of Section B; “Sky is the Limit” of the US Army Golden Knights Parachuting onto the USS Midway Museum as a prelude to the Air show this Saturday is also a reminder of what has to change in our society.

When we are faced with life threatening damage to our environment caused by carbon dioxide emissions, how is it possible that we find “entertainment” in such a needless excessive waste and pollution spewing activity? Can’t we do better?
