A house fire early Saturday morning in Easton’s West Ward displaced two adults and three children who were home when the blaze broke out, the city’s fire chief reports.
Chief Henry Hennings said he was called to the fire about 3:30 a.m. on Wood Avenue at Spring Garden Street, and five additional fire departments assisted the city on the two-alarm blaze.
No one was reported injured, he told lehighvalleylive.com.
The Easton Fire Department arrived to find fire in the attic and called in additional manpower, drawing firefighters and equipment from Wilson Borough, Forks Township, Phillipsburg and Bethlehem Township’s Nancy Run Fire Co., as the Bethlehem Fire Department stepped in to cover any additional Easton calls, Hennings said.
Deputy Fire Chief Chad Gruver was continuing to investigate the cause and point of origin, Hennings said.
The chief credited a “nice attack” by the first-arriving firefighters from the Central Fire Station at South Sixth and Northampton streets with knocking down the fire. Still, the home was left uninhabitable, and the American Red Cross was assisting the five displaced residents, Hennings said.
Crews cleared out a little after 6 a.m., according to the chief.
