The Washington Demon volleyball team couldn’t break up their losing streak in their final home match of the season Tuesday night, falling in four sets to Fort Madison. Washington dropped the first two sets 25-18 and 25-23. Despite battling back and extending the match with a 25-18 third-set victory, the Demons would fall in the decisive fourth set 25-22.

Washington proved to be particularly salty at the net, especially on defense. The Demons posted 18 blocks, including nine from senior Alex Murphy and five from senior Samantha Hunger. Freshman Leighton Messinger lead Washington with 10 kills, three aces and 15 digs. Murphy and Hunger combined for eight kills, while setters Haley Mitchell and Lauren Hinrichsen teamed up for 31 assists and five aces.

The Demons fall to 4-17 and have now lost 10 straight matches. Washington is next in action Tuesday night at Fairfield.
