Greene County restaurant inspections for Sept. 16-21

Food establishments in Greene County are inspected one to three times per year, depending on the type of food served, the population served, the difficulty level of food preparation, and past history.

Issues found during inspections fall into two categories: priority and non-priority. Priority violations are issues that can have a direct impact on the safety of the food and can lead to a restaurant getting shut down if they persist. Non-priority violations are usually centered on things like sanitation or building maintenance.

Here is information from the Springfield-Greene County Health Department regarding restaurant inspections over the past seven days:

Ash Grove H.S. Concession Stand (Gym Lobby), 100 N. Maple Ln Ash Grove. 09/19/2022 - Re-Inspection; Result: Active. The facility had ordered thermometers for refrigerators and a few spares. Observed: The unused soup kettles and cart were not clean. Cleaned prior to exit. Observed: The pressure relief valve on front water heater was leaking and should be repaired.

Fast-N-Friendly, 1451 N. Kansas Expy. 09/19/2022 - Re-Inspection; Result: Active. Facility had taken actions to control flies and it was much better. All milk voluntarily discarded at the time of inspection. (12 quarts chocolate milk, 7 quarts white milk, 3 half gallons chocolate milk, 7 half gallons white milk, 26 16oz chocolate milk, 9 160z strawberry milk, 11 16oz white milk, and 7 gallons of white milk all voluntarily discarded.)Nonpriority Violations Found: 1. Observed side door to kitchen with a gap at the bottom and on the side of the door. The door needs to be tight fitting to prevent pest entry.

Kum & Go #465, 5343 S. Campbell Ave. 09/20/2022 - Routine Inspection; Result: Permitted with Reinspection. Priority Violations Found: 3. Observed employee drinking an canned energy drink and placed next to dough roller and other utensils next to prep cooler. Corrected on-site, education provided. All utensils were immediately washed, rinsed and sanitized. Observed flies in baked goods display cases landing on donuts, cookies and muffins. The entire case of open product was voluntarily discarded. Corrected on-site. Observed several flies in facility in baked goods case and in coffee station area. Contact pest control and eliminate harborage. Adjust fly curtain at front door so air is pushing flies out. Correct by 9/27/2022. Nonpriority Violations Found: 0.

Kum & Go #466, 2506 W. College Rd. 09/16/2022 - Routine Inspection; Result: Active. Discussed marking date pre-packaged sandwiches and burritos, etc are removed from freezer and placed in reach-in cooler to indicate discard date of +6 days from day removed from freezer. Priority Violations Found: 0. Nonpriority Violations Found: 1. Observed: No trash can by hand sink in back food prep area.

Observed: The vent in men's restroom is taped to ceiling and some coving by mop sink is loose. observed: The floor in back room and walk-in refrigerator as well as vent in women's restroom were not clean.

Adjust sink to provide hot water of at least 100F.Observed wiping cloths not being stored in sanitizer solution between uses. Observed milk in walk-in cooler 43-44F.Observed sandwiches from manufacturer with no use by date and various paper wrapped sandwiches with no use by date in reach-in cooler. The paper wrapped brand should have the 7-day use by date and the sandwiches should have the date specified so it does not exceed the manufacturer's shelf life approval. I also explained how "Time as a Control" could be used on their half -n- half pitcher with documentation. Priority Violations Found: 2. Observed: Pitcher of half -n- half setting on counter was 66 degrees F. Immediately discarded and I explained how "Time as a Control" could be used, but must be documented and is limited to 4 hours before being discarded.
