The Pella Community Food Shelf has been dealing with an uptick in use for services for several months in the wake of increasing prices for food and the expiration of many pandemic-related benefits.

Director Melissa Zula says they’ve also faced the higher price of purchasing while acquiring certain goods, and thus, it’s created an unusually high amount of demand for most of 2022.

Zula says while they’ve been able to handle the influx of those needing their services, she’s hopeful those who can help will consider donations to help support their mission.

Those who want to donate to the Pella Community Food Shelf can do so with food and hygiene items at The Well on Oskaloosa Street or the Pella Hy-Vee, checks can be sent to P.O. Box 465 Pella, Iowa, or online contributions can be made on Venmo to PellaCommunity-FoodShelf. Additionally, the Pella Food Shelf receives 25% of all donations made to the Pella CROP Walk October 9th and a portion of proceeds for the upcoming KNIA/KRLS Radio Food Drive in November.

The Pella Food Shelf is open on Tuesdays from 8:00-9:00 am and 6:15 – 8:00 pm.
