Minnesota Waterfowl Hunting Season Opens

Minnesota’s waterfowl hunting season for 2022 opens today (Saturday) in all three of the state’s hunting zones.

Minnesota’s north duck zone will have a continuous season beginning today (Saturday) through November 22nd, while the central and south duck zones will have what is known as a “split season.”

The duck hunting season will be open today through next Sunday, October 2nd in the central and south duck zones, which includes Wright County. The season will then close until Saturday, October 8th, when it will re-open and run through November 27th.

The northern zone is under a continuous goose hunting season which ends December 23rd, while the central and south zones will follow the same early split season dates, but when the season re-opens October 8th, hunters may take geese until December 28th.

If you’ll be headed out this weekend, be sure and check the Minnesota DNR hunting regulations for specific information on shooting hours and bag limits for the area that you will be hunting, and of course, put safety first on your hunting checklist.

DNR officials also remind waterfowlers to pay close attention to rules developed to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species. This year, hunters are also urged to visit the DNR website to get information on the DNR’s response to the latest avian influenza outbreaks in the state.
