Conemaugh Township wins slugfest at West Branch; North Star blanked by Glendale

Conemaugh Township senior quarterback Tanner Shirley completed 15 of 21 passes for 350 yards and five touchdowns to lead the team to a 62-52 shootout victory at West Branch on Friday.

"This was a battle of the athletes," said Conemaugh Township coach Tony Penna Jr. "(West Branch quarterback Tyler) Biggans put on a crazy effort, but the combination of (Tanner) Shirley, (Ethan) Black and (Jon) Updyke just had a few more plays in them."

Black caught eight passes for 247 yards and four touchdowns. He added a 60-yard kickoff return for a score. Meanwhile, Updyke caught six passes for 98 yards and a TD. He rushed for 57 yards and a touchdown as well as a 65-yard kickoff return for a score. Thor O'ship tacked on a touchdown for Conemaugh Township.

Biggans rushed for more than 200 yards and four scores as well as throwing for 100-plus yards and three touchdowns for West Branch. Wyatt Schwiderske rushed for nearly 150 yards and a touchdown.

Conemaugh Township improved to 5-0 on the season and will host Northern Bedford at 7 p.m. on Friday at Shade to celebrate homecoming for the Panther players participating in the co-op with the team.

North Star falls at Glendale

North Star needed a win against Glendale on Friday to right the ship after a 54-13 loss to Windber in Week 4. That did not happen as the Cougars fell to the previously winless Vikings 28-0.

Zeke Dupler tallied three rushing touchdowns and caught a TD pass for Glendale.

North Star was held to negative rushing yards in the game and managed just 30 yards of offense in the game. Connor Yoder threw for 70 yards in the game.

Glendale also blocked a North Star punt to set up a touchdown.

North Star (1-4) hosts Meyersdale at 7 p.m. on Friday.
