Football: Kienholz leads Pierre past Watertown; Hamlin tops Castlewood

Lincoln Kienholz accounted for more than 400 yards of total offense and seven touchdowns to carry top-rated Class 11AA Pierre to a 47-13 Eastern South Dakota Conference victory over Watertown Friday night at Watertown Stadium.

The five-time defending state champion Governors (5-0 overall and in the ESD) trailed 6-0 after one quarter and were tied at 13 with just under five minutes remaining in the first half before scoring the final 34 points of the game.

Kienholz rushed for 160 yards and scored on runs of 17, 35 and 12 yards. He also completed 19 of 33 passes for 309 yards and four touchdowns, teaming with Cade Kaiser on scoring passes of 51 and 43 yards and Jett Zabel on 55 and 6 yards. Zabel caught eight passes for 107 yards, Kaiser four for 111 and Jack Merkwan four for 70.

Watertown (1-4 and 1-3) scored on its opening possession of the game when Alex Kahre's 38-yard run helped set up his 26-yard TD pass to Drew Denzer. Juven Hudson's 74-yard TD run tied the game at 13 in the second period. Hudson rushed for 123 yards on 18 carries and Kahre completed four of 10 passes for 52. Ashton First In Trouble caught two passes for 22 yards.

Simon Hendricks had six solo tackles and one assist and Austin Johnson six solos for the Arrow defense. Caden Beauchamp added four solos and one assist and First In Trouble four solos.

Watertown hosts Aberdeen Central at 7 p.m. Friday in its homecoming game.

Hamlin 61, Castlewood 20: Third-rated Class 9AA Hamlin used a huge game from quarterback Tyson Stevenson to win Hamlin County bragging rights and 'The Brick', a new traveling trophy, with the big win over third-rated Class 9A Castlewood.

Stevenson rushed for two touchdowns and completed all nine of his pass attempts for 217 yards and five touchdowns for the Chargers (6-0). Zac VanMeeteren (7 and 45 yards), Evan Stormo (36 and 43) and Luke Fraser (20) each caught TD passes. Fraser, who ran for 171 yards, also returned an interception for a score. Mason Trowbridge added a 31-yard TD run. VanMeeteren made 5.5 tackles and Kasen Prouty and Stormo four each.

Lane Tvedt rushed for 49 yards and completed 11 of 24 passes for 168 yards for Castlewood (4-1), connecting with Jackson Schofield and Booker Schooley on 25-yard scoring plays and Quincy Thu on a 13-yarder. Jeremiah Wiersma, Carson Kirwan and Schooley each were involved in six tackles.

Deuel 55, Dakota Hills 0: Seven players scored touchdowns and Brandon Fieber broke a school record with seven extra-point kicks to lead Deuel (5-1). Carver Nothem scored on runs of 27 and 16 yards and Troy Maaland (28 yards), Dominic Constant (5) and Owen Haas (50) added TD runs. Brayden Simon hauled in a 12-yard TD pass from Maaland, Owen Quail returned a kickoff 72 yards and Gavin Benck added a 30-yard fumble return for another score. Nothem rushed for 79 yards and Haas 72. Tate Kenyon made six tackles and Cafrson Marko five with a sack.

Dylan Rumpza completed an 18-yard pass to Ben Kasuske for the Grizzlies (0-6).

Florence-Henry 27, Deubrook Area 6: Mehki Keller's three touchdowns carried the Falcons (3-2) to victory. He scored on runs of 7 and 4 yards and also hauled in a 12-yard TD pass from Tegan Sumner. Sumner, who completed 11 of 23 passes for 215 yards, also teamed with Clay Trupe on a 38-yard scoring strike. Trupe caught four passes for 135 yards and Keller six for 75. Karter Kohlenberg rushed for 62 yards. Trupe notched 10 tackles and also recoverd a fumble and Sam Blue recorded two sacks as part of a nine-tackle performance.

Deubrook Area (4-2) snapped the shutout on Colin Bauman's 30-yard TD pass to Devon Landmark. Bauman completed 11 of 23 for 160 yards, teaming with Landmark five times for 114.

Dell Rapids 37, Milbank 6: Mason Stubbe (8-yard run and 65-yard punt return) and Brayden Pankonen (2-yard run and 60-yard kickoff return) each scored twice to help the second-rated Class 11A Quarriers improve to 5-0. Chase Jones scored on a 42-yard run and Aiden Geraets added a safety as part of an eight-tackle performance.

Garrett Mertens passed for 106 yards and scored on a 7-yard run for Milbank (0-5). Sawyer Gauer made five tackles and Aidan Foell four.

McCook Central-Montrose 18, Sioux Valley 14: McCook Central-Montrose (5-1) overcame a 14-0 deficit after the first quarter with a 4-yard TD run by Jackson Remmers and two Boston Katzer TD passes, one to Ty Morrison for 72 yards and another to Ty Doblar for 19 yards. Remmers rushed for 117 yards and Katzer completed 19 of 24 passes for 252. Doblar had 10 catches for 94 yards and Morrison three for 98. Carter Randall contributed 14 tackles and Will Cleveland 13.

Donovan Rose rushed for 90 yards and scored on runs of 21 and 4 yards for Sioux Valley (3-3). Lane Liebsch added 64 yards rushing. Jace Christensen went 9-for-13 passing for 86 yards. Boden Schiller caught four passes for 47 yards and made 15 tackles. Brock Christopherson contributed 11.

Elkton-Lake Benton 50, Iroquois-Lake Preston 0: Ryan Krog rushed for 174 yards and two touchdowns and passes for 186 yards and four other scores for the Elks (6-0). Tanner Stein caught two passes for 91 yards and two scores and Tanner Drietz (51 yards) and Carson Griffith (44) also hauled in TD passes. Tanner Stein had six tackles and Drietz intercepted a pass.

Jake Larsen ran for 53 yards on 12 carries for the Sharks (0-6).

Clark-Willow Lake 31, Mobridge-Pollock 22: Trey Huber passed for 129 yards and three touchdowns and also rushed for 47 yards and another score for the Cyclones (3-3). Tyson Huber caught four passes for 89 yards and two TDs and Kaplan Felberg three for 32 and a TD. Griffin Musser added 71 yards rushing and a score.

Elliot Bratland (eight solo tackles, nine assists) and Mitchell Larson (three solos, six assists) joined Cole Brenden with interceptions.

Estelline-Hendricks 42, Centerville 16: The Redhawks (3-2) rolled to the victory over the Tornadoes (1-5) behind Joseph McAninch's 208-yard rushing with three touchdowns (6, 85 and 31 yards) performance. Caden Ching scored on a 27-yard run, Wyat James a 55-yard interception return and Jon Nefzger on a 50-yard pass from Mattix Hausman. Ching rushed for 59 yards, Hausman passed for 56 and Nefzger went 4-for-5 in extra-point kicks. Matthew McAninch made eight stops and James and Braxton Jongeling each five.

Lane Johnson rushed for 103 yards and a 25-yard TD for Centerville. Cole Edberg tossed a 59-yard scoring pass to Noah Schoenfelder. Edberg threw for 203 yards and Schoenfelder caught six passes for 98 yards. Alec Austin's nine tackles including two quarterback sacks.

Redfield 26, Webster Area 0: The Pheasants (3-2) took the Northeast Conference game by scoring two touchdowns in the first quarter and one each in the final two quarters.

Brent Bearman rushed for 31 yards, caught three passes for 10 yards and also made 11 solo tackles and two assists for Webster Area (1-5). Matthew Mount contributed six solo tackles and two assists.

Britton-Hecla 43, Arlington 12: BoDell Davidson ran for 181 yards and three TDs (8, 63 and 41 yards) and also connected on an 11-yard TD pass to Bryce Hawkins for the 3-2 Braves. Tucker Mertens added 72 yards rushing an da 2-yard TD run and Jaxon Zuehlke fired a 35-yard scoring pass from Peyton Pearson. Davidson made seven tackles and Collin Beaner and Isaiah Jackson each 5.5.

Arlington (0-5) scored on a 50-yard pass from Jake Burns to Blake Madsen and on a 6-yard run by Leilan Farstad. Caden Murphy ran for 48 yards and Jett Spilde 36. Murphy also had 7.5 tackles and Tommy Bacon 6.5.

Groton Area 28, Sisseton 0: Groton Area evened its record at 3-3 with the Northeast Conference win over Sisseton (1-5).

Lane Tietz connected with Andrew Marzahn (6 yards) and Teylor Diegel (50 yards) on scoring passes. The Tigers also scored a 30-yard interception return from Colby Dunker and an 11-yard run from Diegel. Diegel ran for 112 yards and had three receptions for 73 yards. Tietz passed for 131 yards. Holden Sippel and Dunker each recorded 12 tackles.

Jason Fisher rushed for 22 yards and caught two passes for 30 yards for Sisseton. Hunter Biel notched 11 tackles and Taylor Snaza nine.

Winnebago, Neb. 60, Tiospa Zina 6: Winnebago rolled to the victory in the matchup of 3-1 All-Nations Conference teams.

Richland, N.D. 38, Tri-State 0: Tri-State slipped to 0-6 with the loss to Richland (2-4).

Saturday's Game

Great Plains Lutheran 41, North Central 8: Brody Scharlemann tossed four touchdown passes, two each to Jacob Bartels (20 and 43 yards) and Myles York (17 and 14 yards) to lead the Panthers to victory in the LRC Classic at Dacotah Bank Field in Aberdeen. Micah Holien and Thomas Erickson added scoring runs of 6 and 33 yards, respectively, for GPL (3-2). Scharlemann passed for 104 yards and Holien ran for 90. York had eight tackles and two fumble recoveries, RJ Perry seven tackles and a blocked punt, Levi Holloway seven tackles and Holien five tackles and an interception.

Spencer Buechler scored on an 8-yard run for North Central (1-4).
