A man was caught on camera, throwing a rock at a driver's windshield in southeast Portland two weeks ago.
Steve Magnuson talked to KATU Friday night, describing the frightening encounter that he got from his dash cam.
"I was pretty much in the path of the rock," said Magnuson.
He said he was driving home from the grocery store near Southeast 49th and Hawthorne, when a man on a bicycle came riding toward him, holding a rock.
"Really wound up, threw it in there, you know. He threw the pitch real hard," said Magnuson.
Luckily, it didn't shatter the windshield, but it was enough to scare him.
"I was definitely worried about my safety," said Magnuson.
He said right after it happened, he was going to find the suspect himself, but he reconsidered.
"I thought this person knows my face, they know my car, that fear hasn’t bore out," said Magnuson.
Portland police said they did investigate the case. They said they found the suspect and gave him a criminal citation.
Magnuson said he grew up in Portland and has never seen it like this before.
"There’s always been folks struggling, especially around the city center. There’s always been folks that will give you a hard time if you have a conformist, or a different class appearance, but it’s just pumped up to the extreme," said Magnuson.
In the end, Magnuson said he doesn't have ill-will toward the suspect; he just wished society could do more for those who are struggling.
"Show solidarity and support whenever you can, try to understand people’s choices, try to have a lot of compassion," said Magnuson.
