Washington County deputies arrested two women Friday after the women led authorities on a chase.
It all started when deputies spotted 26-year-old Ana Juarez Santoyo of Cornelius near her home just after 6:30 p.m. They said she was wanted for threatening to shoot an adult and four children earlier this month.
Deputies said she got into a car driven by 24-year-old Bianca Gonzalez Vargas, who also lives in Cornelius.
Deputies later pulled the car over in Hillsboro but said the women refused to get out. Juarez Santoyo screamed at them that she had a gun, they said.
Deputies said Gonzalez Vargas sped off after they used foam rounds to break one of the car’s windows to see what was going on inside.
Deputies gave chase, and they said Gonzalez Vargas reached speeds of 75 mph on Highway 219.
Deputies used spike strips on Southwest Farmington Road and flattened two of her tires, but they said she kept driving on the rims.
Deputies prepared to spike her tires again near Southwest River Road but said she stopped in the middle of the road and surrendered.
But deputies said Juarez Santoyo climbed into driver’s seat and drove off.
A deputy used a patrol car to force her off the road on Farmington Road near Farmington Gardens near Clark Hill Road.
Juarez Santoyo still refused to surrender, deputies said, and they again used foam rounds to break a window. When she opened her car door, a police dog bit her and she went back inside the car. Deputies fired pepper spray into the car, and she surrendered.
Juarez Santoyo was taken to a hospital to be treated for the dog bites.
She faces charges of felony attempt to elude, menacing, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, recklessly endangering another person, and first-degree criminal mischief, as well as five counts of menacing for the incident earlier in the month.
