High school football roundup: Mishawaka whips Warsaw, likely to be No. 1

Mishawaka's Chase Gooden returned from a shoulder injury sustained in the second week of the season to lead the Class 5A, No. 2-ranked Cavemen to a 43-19 victory over Warsaw in Northern Lakes Conference play.

Gooden carried the ball a whopping 26 times for 108 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Brady Fisher rushed 90 yards and had three touchdowns. Novell Miller scored Mishawaka's other TD. The Cavemen capitalized on five Warsaw turnovers, including two interceptions.

The Cavemen win sets up a huge NLC clash next Friday at Steele Stadium against NorthWood. Both teams are 6-0 overall and 5-0 in the conference.

With No. 1-rated Whiteland losing to Class 4A Martinsville, 35-21, Friday night, it is likely Mishawaka will rise to the top of the rankings this week.

Northridge 42, Wawasee 17

Qade Carrington was 12-of-18 passing for 212 yards and four touchdowns as Northridge beat Wawasee in an NLC matchup.

McClain Miller had 74 rushing yards and a touchdown for the Raiders. Collin Heynis had five receptions — three for TDs — for 125 yards.

New Prairie 49, South Bend Adams 2

New Prairie scored three touchdowns in a span on 59 seconds on its way to a 49-2 win over South Bend Adams in Northern Indiana Conference action.

Brock Sinka, Marshall Kmiecik, Noah Mungia and Jacob Mrozinski each scored rushing touchdowns. Sinka and Trayvion Ortman each returned interceptions for touchcdowns. Reece Lapczynski hauled in a 64-yard pass from Kmiecik for a TD.

Kmiecik led the Cougars with 123 rushing yards on 14 carries. Mungia had nine carries for 80 yards.

New Prairie is still unscathed at 6-0 (3-0 NIC) while the Eagles fall to 1-5 (1-3).

Bremen 14, Glenn 7

Bremen capitalized on four interceptions to claim a Northern Indiana Conference victory over Glenn.

Seth Libey, Mikal Rogers, Cody Czarnecki and Reece Greene each had an interception for the Lions.

Lance Moswer scored both rushing touchdowns for Bremen.

Concord 37, Goshen 7

Shamon Wells-Moore rushed 17 times for 151 yards as Concord crushed Goshen. Titus Hackworth had two rushing TD's for the Minutemen, now 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the NLC. Goshen falls to 1-5, 1-3.

LaVille 21, Knox 20

A Knox fourth-quarter rally fell short with less than a minute to play as LaVille remained unbeaten with a 21-20 victory.

Trailing, 21-7, Knox scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter and then tried for a game-winning 2-point conversion with under a minute to play, but failed.

LaVille, ranked No. 4 in Class 2A, improves to 6-0.

Lucas Plummer scored two touchdowns for the Lancers and Paul Dewitt had a 34-yard rushing TD.

MICHIGAN

Buchanan 34, Kalamazoo Loy Norrix 12

Buchanan opened a 20-0 lead in the opening quarter on its way to victory over Kalamazoo Loy Norrix.

Leland Payne had 18 carries for 76 yards and two touchdowns. Connor LeGault of 8-of-19 passing for 116 yards, but was intercepted twice. LeGault scored a rushing touchdown as well.

Dillon Oatsvall had a reception for a TD and finished with three catches for 46 yards. Gabe Tompkins accounted for the other Buck on a 1-yard run.
