SPARTANBURG — A store that offers a warehouse-style shopping experience has opened its first Spartanburg location.
US Foods opened a CHEF’STORE at 300 W. Blackstock Road with a culinary-themed ribbon cutting and business preview event on Sept. 23. The store will open to customers on Sept. 24 at 6 a.m.
The Spartanburg location is the company’s fourth CHEF’STORE in South Carolina. There are CHEF’STORE locations in Charleston, Columbia and Myrtle Beach.
“The US Foods part of the company has been servicing a lot of food service companies in the area for a long time, so it's nice to put roots down with one of our CHEF’STOREs to help service them even more,” said Ryan Gray, director for customer experience for US Foods.

The store has more than 5,000 products. Inside, shoppers can find meat, fresh produce, dairy items, deli items and frozen seafood. There’s a variety of condiments, baking ingredients, beverages and janitorial supplies. There are other restaurant and cooking essentials such as glassware, containers and eating utensils.
Steve and Patsy Pinker are from Inman and have had a food trailer for four years. The couple sells hamburgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, chips, canned drinks and caters community events. The Pinkers said they usually go to Grenville to shop and are looking forward to having a store that’s in a more convenient location.
“We’re really excited to have something other than Costco or Sam’s Club, so it’s great to be able to have this addition,” Tammy Black said.

Black is planning to open a store soon and will sell hot dogs, chicken fingers, pizza and hamburgers as takeout items. She lives in the Cross Anchor area of the county.
US Foods is a food company and leading food service distributor with headquarters in Rosemont, Ill. With the Spartanburg location, the company has 83 CHEF’STORE locations across the U.S. A CHEF’STORE allows restaurant operators, food service professionals and the public to buy wholesale food and restaurant supplies.
The store will be open Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
