A flash flood warning was in effect for Maricopa and Pinal counties Friday evening, the National Weather Service in Phoenix announced.

“Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles,” the weather service said. “In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain.”

Some locations that are expected to experience flash flooding include Scottsdale and Camp Creek.

The weather service advises against attempting to cross flooded roads and to find an alternate route.

“Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement and request they pass this information to the National Weather Service,” the agency said.

The flood warnings are in effect until 9:15 p.m.
