Jan Waldron Bowls

Sep 23, 2022

Jan Waldron Bowls, 83, of Springville UT, passed away on September 11, 2022 after a long battle with Congestive Heart Failure. She was surrounded by her two daughters at the time she passed.

Jan was born on April 19, 1939 to Lewis and Jessie Waldron in Ogden UT. After graduating from Morgon High School in 1957, Jan attended Weber College and graduated with an Associate of Science in 1959. She then moved to Salt Lake City, UT to attend the University of Utah. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 1961.

After graduating, Jan found a job working for a CPA firm in Salt Lake City, Peat, Marwick, Mitchell and Co. (Now known as KPMG) The company transferred her to their office in Honolulu, Hawaii in the early months of 1967. She made many wonderful friends and grew to love this beautiful island. While living in Hawaii, she met her husband Robert Bowls (Bob). They married August 1, 1967. They had two daughters, Jodi and Sena.

In 1979 while living in Richland Washington, Jan and Bob divorced. Jan and her two daughters moved to Utah where she could be closer to her sister and mother. She settled in Orem and continued to raise her daughters on her own while working full-time as a tax accountant. She landed a job at Fox and Company which changed ownership and names over the years but essentially, she worked for the same company until she retired in her late 70’s. She loved her job and loved the people she worked with. She made so many wonderful friends over the course of her career. Jan mentored many students in the world of accounting and tax. A few of the women she mentored became her best of friends.

Jan is known for her kindness, her smile, laugh, and sense of humor. She still managed to crack a joke the day she died. Even in the end she still comforted her daughters by stroking their hands as she layed in bed. She inspired so many people by her strength and will to live life despite the physical challenges she faced from contracting Polio at the age of 15. Jan never let her disability stop her from achieving her goals or living a life she desired. She loved her family more than anything. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were her life.

Jan is preceded in death by her parents, and her sister Karen Van De Graff. She is survived by her two daughters, Jodi (Dawn) Bowls-Vaillancourt, Sena Bowls; her four grandchildren, Justin (Lenor Kubie) Chinn, Cursti Baxter, and Gage Bowls; her three great grandchildren, Ty, Rayne, and Mila; and her brother Robert (Bob) Waldron.

A viewing will be held on October 7, 2022 from 6 -8pm at Nelson Family Mortuary, 4780 N University Ave, Provo, UT. A short viewing and funeral service will be held on October 8, 2022 at Nelson Family Mortuary. Viewing from 10-10:45am and Funeral services at 11am.
