A 39-year-old Onondaga County woman has been charged in connection with a crash in the Town of Clay on September 17 that left a 10-year-old child hospitalized in serious condition, The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office said Friday.
Around 10 p.m. on September 17, deputies responded to the intersection of Henry Clay Boulevard and Buckley Road in Clay for reports of a crash involving two cars.
Through an investigation and witness interview, deputies found that a white pickup truck was traveling north on Henry Clay Boulevard when it passed a red light at the intersection with Buckley Road.
An SUV traveling east through the intersection was hit by the pickup truck, deputies say.
The driver of the SUV suffered minor injuries, but her 10-year-old daughter sustained serious injuries and was transported to Upstate University Hospital. She is currently listed in critical condition.
The driver of the pickup truck, Harley VanSlyke of Liverpool, and her 8-year-old passenger were both transported to Upstate Hospital for evaluation.
On Friday morning, deputies arrested VanSlyke, charging her with driving while intoxicated, unreasonable speeding, and passing a red light.
She is currently being held at the Justice Center and is expected to be arraigned Friday.
The 10-year-old child remains hospitalized in serious condition.
