MACON, Ga. (WGXA) -- An Atrium Health Navicent nurse was arrested over an incident involving a woman giving birth.
Documents from the Bibb County Courthouse state that the victim was giving birth to her son in May 2022.
While giving birth, the victim and her husband noticed Registered Nurse Rachel Fastow, 26, come into the delivery room with the flash of her camera on.
Fastow's phone was in a pocket on her scrub top. She turned the camera off once another nurse pointed it out to her.
Several months later, in August, the victim learned that a video of her giving birth on the Labor and Delivery floor of Atrium Health Navicent had been distributed on Snapchat.
Atrium Health Navicent released this statement regarding the incident:
Privacy is of the utmost importance to our organization – both for our patients and for our teammates. Our goal is always that every patient who entrusts us with their care has a positive experience in safe environment. We are aware of the charges and are fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation to understand all of the details of this case. Once all the facts are known, we will take whatever actions are appropriate, based on the findings.
Meanwhile, Fastow's attorney tells WGXA News these allegations were previously investigated and she was cleared, adding she was allowed to return to her nursing duties.
Ms. Fastow is heartbroken by the baseless allegations levied against her. A thorough and complete administrative investigation was conducted by her employer, whereby she was previously exonerated of wrongdoing and rightfully allowed to return to her nursing duties well before her arrest. Without any new evidence, despite her being administratively cleared of wrongdoing, and months after the alleged event, a warrant was then sought.
Ms. Fastow denies any illegality or wrongdoing and intends on vigorously defending herself from these defamatory allegations on all fronts. Further, she intends on holding all applicable parties liable for these untrue dispersions.
Fastow was arrested in September on one count of Unlawful Eavesdropping or Surveillance. She has since been released on a $44,000 bond.
