Kia and Hyundai have responded to St. Louis after the city threatened a lawsuit unless the two companies fixed the glitches that made their cars easy to steal.

So far this year, more than 2,400 Hyundais and Kias have been stolen in the city, and almost 900 in the county.

In response to the city's lawsuit threat, the companies are giving free steering wheel locks to area police departments. Hyundai also said that next month, they'll start selling a security computer kit to hinder car thieves.

Lawsuits against the car makers are already underway in Kansas City and Iowa.
