PORTAGE, MI -- Work on a new car wash development will lead to a lane closure next week, the city of Portage said.
Starting at 9 a.m. Monday, Sept. 26, the curb lane will be closed for northbound traffic on South Westnedge Avenue, from Andy Avenue to Kilgore Road, for driveway improvements at Drive & Shine, located at 5003 S. Westnedge Ave.
Motorists may wish to seek an alternate route to avoid delays, the city of Portage said in a news release. The lane closure will be removed Monday, Oct. 3, weather permitting, the city said.
The Drive & Shine car wash is coming to the southeast corner of South Westnedge Avenue and Kilgore Road.
The new car wash will be the third location of the family-owned business in the Kalamazoo area, Sherry Tehrani, vice president of marketing at Indiana-based Drive & Shine, told MLive previously.
The other locations are at 5321 Gull Road in Comstock Township and 4201 W. Main St. in Kalamazoo Township.
The same company previously had an unsuccessful attempt to bring a new car wash to the southeast corner of Stadium Drive and South Drake Road in the city of Kalamazoo.
The city’s planning commission voted against recommending the removal of Natural Features Protection to the Kalamazoo City Commission. The removal of the Natural Features Protection area, which is meant to provide guidelines for developments near sites with natural features, was requested by the company. Today, the site at Stadium Drive and South Drake Road sits empty.
