PALM BAY, Fla. (WKRC) - A Florida police officer has been arrested after he allegedly had inappropriate contact with a young girl while on duty.
23-year-old Sheridon Archer was fired from his job at the Palm Bay Police Department and taken into custody Wednesday.
The department alerted the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) to the allegations on Sept. 18.
FDLE agents say they discovered Archer had made contact with the 13-year-old victim through social media, including Snapchat and a dating app.
According to a press release, he met with her for sex at her home on two separate occasions between Aug. 1 and 20, both times while working.
Investigators say he admitted to having sex with her, as well as exchanging nude pictures.
Archer reportedly told them that he thought the girl was 19.
He is charged with two counts of lewd and lascivious battery of a victim under the age of 16, and is being held on a $500,000 bond with the condition that he does not have any contact with the victim.
The police department said in a statement that Archer was terminated immediately. He had apparently only been working there for about nine months.
