no, its a bit different for sure... not massively though.

and a bit unprofessional appending the sea devils ident and card at the end of it though.

Almost looks like it shouldnt have been released yet - in fact no mention on twitter etc so to me its a bit odd.

I'm pretty certain it was the same trailer as seen at the end of the Sea Devils episode, interestingly though the page appears to have been taken down as the link in the email just take you to the home page of the Doctor Who site now.

yes there was something off about this for sure.

Not an official Power of the Doctor Trailer, at least not one that was finished or ready perhaps.

There were different scenes than the actual one that aired at the end of the Sea Devils but broadly similar.

The real give-away here is that if there was a new trailer for general consumption it would be all over the web, and the official Dr Who twitter account etc etc etc - and nobody has mentioned it at all.

    absolutely not.
the poster should give that away.

The genuine one, at the very least, will be posted all over the place once released especially by the official BBC accounts.

Did no one else get this e-mail then, came in late afternoon on Friday, and definitely had a link in it, as posted above.

The e-mail was titled "Ready for one last adventure?" and said:

    One last trip...

    The Power of the Doctor.

    Coming soon.

GET YOUR FIRST LOOK (this was the link as posted above)

As said above though, the link now takes you to the main page, so unsure why I get the e-mail.

    erm, no.

With respect, @sodafountain whatever that email was - was NOT official - and just spam.

The video was released 9th September...

Please just take a second to read the video description:

"Here is a fan made trailer for the upcoming Centenary Special: The Power of the Doctor, revealing the release date and sharing new content, all in mesmerising 4K! Enjoy!"

..... tells you everything you need to know!

I didn't link to the Youtube video, that was someone else, my link was in the first post, and was on the doctorwho.tv website (since removed), and the e-mail was not spam, it was an official Doctor Who e-mail.

This is the link to the e-mail - https://view.s6.exacttarget.com/?qs=aa2b4193958dc572217fc025a57ec4eb02750443bd14ff6050a3ddd3232aef5888506fdafb2fc44f6cf70d73043206580e0fc18c65c269cde0979ae15f436c994fcc3c59706f78c80f852b6a996d84b6

as already said, the link to the video no loner works, but it did on Friday, maybe they sent it out in error to a few people.#

You even watched hte video I linked, see your post number 3, this was totally different to the one posted by @allen_who in post number 7.

no need to be so defensive.... its confusing what we are talking about with multiple links being posted in this thread.

To be fair, that first video to which you refer DOES has some seemingly genuine footage that weve not seen before as I stated in post #3 - specifically Tegan and Ace comparing the number of years since they last saw the doctor.

This seems genie, but the trailer doesnt really expand a great deal on that which weve already seen back in the sea devils AND as I also pointed out it still had the sea devils outro on it.

So, my deduction is that whatever this is, was not intended to be released early, or in that form.

If it had been "official" then it would have been all over twitter and YouTube immediately. It wansnt. So we wait for something official now.

Was just pointing out I never posted the fake video, not was the e-mal spam, as to why they sent it to me, I don't know, you'll have to ask them, but it came in exactly the same as others I get from them.

I think the email must have been sent by mistake. I expect it was meant to link to the new trailer which we'll probably see in a week or two's time, but instead just linked to the old trailer which does contain the scene of Ace and Tegan comparing years - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHhjMjqy7dU

It'll be interesting to see if there's any Doctor Who emails this Friday?

Well, they are leaving it rather late again! It has to be on air by the end of October and we are running out of time.

You would have thought that we would get something a good 2 to 4 weeks ahead of transmission.

Well, we are dealing with Chibnall here. The master of absolutely no marketing and promoting skills, combined with a BBC press office who appears to have no strategy either. Is one over-ruling the other? I mean, RTD has already wetted people's appetite for the 60th and beyond with just a modicum of tweets, insta messages, hints and the return of a certain David Tennant and Catherine Tate. JW hasn't even got her last episode out there yet and she's already history. I think they (the BBC) have done with her era and don't expect the ratings to do any better, even if Power of the Doctor is (as JW has said) for "Whovians"... she'll not be watching then?

    But are we?
Far be it from me to get in the way of another opportunity to bash the guy…..

But as far as I can see he left the building so to speak a long time ago - almost a year. In my mind he is no longer showrunner and rtd is in charge now.

Although rtd had nothing to do with the centenary, it does feel like it’s up to him promoting all things dr who now.

At the very least expect him to plug the upcoming special like mad. To say he has a vested interest in its success is an understatement after all.

I feel any more appearances by chibnall will be pre recorded talking head contributions to the behind the scenes stuff we will inevitably see post transmission - but recorded a year ago. I would be very surprised to see him doing any live promotion for his last episode which in itself is just weird as you’d have thought he would be wanting to be present for the end of his era.

    Anyway we will see.

    Which bits are new footage?

The bulk of it is the Season 26 Bluray trailer (from 2019) and the trailer from after the last special (April 2022). Probably a few bits from elsewhere but i'm sure it would all be older footage.

Where have the first 40 seconds come from in the fan made one? hence me saying 'Have I missed something?'

Great, but not all of us do Blu Ray. To be honest don't even know what Blu Ray is. Is it now the case that people who don't do all these technologies miss a bit out all the time? The obvious question now from me is... has it been known since 2019 that Tegan was coming back, because I thought that was meant to be a wow from a trailer earlier this year.

It was a Trailer for the release of Season 26 (the last season of Classic Who), absolutely nothing to do with the current show.

Most (maybe all, I don't know) of the recent releases of the Classic seasons have had new bits of footage filmed to promote them, this was the one for Season 26.

    Another example for Season 22

Good point about Chibnall having already signed out of showrunner duties. But…. let’s face it he has form at being rubbish in promoting the show. So his silence and lack of virtually know build up is more or less the norm. After his underwhelming, indeed woeful performance, and disastrous retcon of the show, I’m happy to bash, knock, or criticise Chinball at every opportunity.

I think there's a good chance that all the BBC Centenary publicity is being centrally coordinated. There was an article from either September 2021 or possibly March of this year that mentioned several programmes that were going to be featured on the Centenary week.

    Here's one I found :

    https://variety.com/2021/tv/global/bbc-centenary-programming-strictly-come-dancing-doctor-who-masterchef-1235114379/

The BBC will also broadcast specials of its biggest shows around its 100th birthday, including “Strictly Come Dancing,” “Doctor Who,” “Top Gear,” “MasterChef,” “The Apprentice” and “Antiques Roadshow.”

So keep an eye on the publicity for the other programmes to get clues to Doctor Who's airdate.
