PEORIA, Ill. — A man wanted by law enforcement agencies in multiple jurisdictions across central Illinois is now in police custody following Peoria Police investigators’ work in the wake of a shooting earlier this week.
Police say they now have 30-year-old DeShawn Early in custody.
He’s considered one of multiple suspects linked to a shooting that left a victim injured in the hand and foot near Spring Street and NE Adams early in the wee-hours Thursday.
Early and at least one other shooter are believed to have fired at least 30 rounds in the incident, hitting nearby vehicles and wounding the victim, who was then rushed to OSF St. Francis Medical center by private vehicle for emergency treatment.
In their updated release, Peoria Police say officers with the department’s Criminal Investigations Division developed Early as a prime suspect through the day Thursday and later located him near the Par-A-Dice Casino in East Peoria around 11:30 p.m.
Police reportedly then followed Early to Club Cabaret in Creve Couer, where officers with the Peoria and East Peoria Police department’s worked together to take him into custody.
A release issued Friday states the officers managed to take Early “without incident”
Early’s vehicle was searched incident to his arrest and two loaded handguns were recovered.
He’s currently facing charges of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and Property Damage, but he had been wanted on multiple charges, including Armed Violence and Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon in Peoria as well as Aggravated Assault and Resisting Arrest in Bartonville and several other cases reported out of Tazewell and Henderson Counties.
The investigation into the identity of the other suspect involved in the shooting is on-going.
