FLORIDA (KXAN) — After it’s initial landfall in Cuba, Hurricane Ian made landfall along the Florida Coast Wednesday as a Category 4 hurricane at 3:10 p.m. ET with maximum sustained winds of 150 mph.

After weakening briefly to a tropical storm, Ian regained hurricane strength and made a second U.S. landfall at 2:05 p.m. ET near Georgetown, South Carolina as a Category 1 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 85 mph.

Ian is now a post-tropical storm. It has lost many of its tropical qualities.

Ian still spreading rain and wind in the mid-Atlantic region

A 1-in-1,000 year rain event is taking place in Central Florida with more than 14 inches of rain in 12 hours from the hurricane. Rare Flash Flood Emergencies were issued Wednesday night.

This was Florida’s first hurricane landfall since Hurricane Michael on Oct. 10, 2018. Michael was a devastating Category 5 storm in the Panhandle with winds up to 161 mph when it made landfall near Tyndall Air Force Base near Panama City.
