An additional suspect has been arrested in connection with a Sumter County drive-by shooting, according to the Sumter County Sheriff's Office.
On Sept. 22, 2022, the United States Marshals Service Carolina Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office located and arrested 17-year-old Common Nelson.
Officials say Nelson had multiple outstanding warrants from Sumter County for an August 14 drive-by shooting incident.
The warrants state that Nelson allegedly fired multiple rounds into the victim’s car, which was occupied by the driver, her 1-year-old daughter, and her 17-year-old cousin.
The 17-year-old was struck in the arm by one of the rounds.
Nelson allegedly fired those rounds into the victim’s car while driving past the victim at an intersection along Old Pocalla Road in Sumter.
According to officials, Nelson also remains a suspect in at least one other incident in Sumter County.
Nelson was transported to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center where his bond was denied Friday morning pending an appearance in circuit court on a later date.
