An actor and Philly native comes home to encourage big change through small choices

Elijah Everett hosts a community empowerment event at Academy Park High School in Sharon Hill on Saturday

DELAWARE COUNTY, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — At 6’ 7” and 280 pounds, Elijah Everett is not your average actor. And the Philadelphia native is encouraging others to not be average as well.

“Basically, the whole concept is a better quality of life and for us to be educated on how we can do that,” Everett said.

That idea is at the center of a community empowerment event that he is hosting Saturday, from noon to 4 p.m., at his alma mater, Academy Park High School in Sharon Hill.

“I’ve seen the decline in our community there,” he said, “and I felt like most of it is because we have to get outside our norm of thinking.”

He has a long list of acting credits to his name, including “Law and Order” and the Amazon miniseries “The Underground Railroad,” as well as appearances on TV series “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law,” “WandaVision,” “Cobra Kai” and “Mindhunter.” He has impersonated former President Barack Obama on the radio. And some may recognize him for his work as a body double for Shaquille O’Neal.

Everett says he dreams big, and he goes after it — and he wants the people who come out to Skool Days to master that, as well.

The event at Academy Park will include motivational speaking, visualization and meditation workshops, a seminar on healthy eating, and an appearance from Jason Thompson, a former NBA star from Mount Laurel Twp., N.J.

“We want to first have a visualization going on of ‘What exactly is it that you want to do as a person?’" Everett said.

"Most people have an idea at this point, but then I want you to go back and revisit it again after you’re doing meditation and say, ‘Well, is that really it?’ and then ‘Are you making the choices right now that are pushing you closer or further away from where you’re trying to be?’”
