George Fuchs was awarded a Quilt of Valor by the Quilts of Valor Foundation on Sept. 17 at the Henderson County Public Library. The Joseph McDowell Chapter NSDAR nominated Fuchs for his service to the country as well as his continuing service to the veterans at the Charles George VA Hospital in Asheville, according to a news release. He is the husband of long-time DAR member, Judy Fuchs.

Fuchs and his network of veterans collect books and donate them to the Joseph McDowell Chapter to send to the VA Hospital. The DAR thanked Fuchs for his military service and his continuing service to veterans.

The Quilts of Valor Foundation was founded in 2003, and the first Quilt of Valor was awarded at Walter Reed Medical Center. In 2019, over a quarter-million quilts had been awarded and volunteers are working toward 500,000 comforting and healing quilts for the 20th Anniversary in 2023.
