That ongoing bridge replacement project up the North Shore has resulted in a temporary road closure to allow for the necessary road alignment.

Loop Road - also known as Silver Creek Township Road 613 - has been closed at its connection to Highway 61.  As mentioned, the closure will allow for the eventual road realignment that's tied to the Silver Creek Bridge that's located to the north of Two Harbors.

While traffic along Highway 61 (north and south-bound) aren't affected, drivers who need to access Loop Road won't be able to do so at the usual spot. Those drivers are directed to make their access to Loop Road via Lake County Road 3.

The timeline for the road connection closure released by the MInnesota Department of Transportation shows that the work is expected to be wrapped up by mid-October.  At that time, the normal traffic flow is expected to revert back to normal.

Construction at Silver Creek on the bridge continues.  Traffic on Highway 61 will remain on the temporary bypass that was established at Silver Creek until some point in mid-October.

Meanwhile, construction at Stewart River will also continue for the season.  Traffic will be directed to the newly-constructed bridge and will remain in a head-to-head pattern through Fall of 2023.  In addition, the Kelsey Beach parking lot will be closed during construction.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation has complete details and information about both the Silver Creek and the Stewart River Bridge replacement projects on their website.  Work on both of the bridges is expected to be complete by the end of the summer road construction season in 2023.
