Last Updated on September 23, 2022 by Fisher Funeral Chapel

Max E. Snider, 80, Logansport, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, September 18, 2022, with his family by his side.

Born March 30, 1942, in Logansport, he was the son of the late Junior “Jack” F. and Maxine E. (Garrett) Snider.

Max grew up on a farm in Carroll County, learning to drive a tractor at the age of six. He was a 4-H member for over 10 years and helped on the farm until graduation. Max was one of 42 students graduating in 1960 from Flora High School.

In November of 1960, he entered the United States Army, serving as a reservist for the next 8 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 60.

In the fall of 1961, Max started working at the Jackson-Kitchell Farm Equipment dealership. He later went on to work for the Allis Chalmers dealer before becoming the service manager for George Schreiber Tractor Sales & Service. Max dedicated over 39 years of service to various implement dealers.

Max advanced his knowledge in farm equipment repairs by attending many schools through the years – traveling to various parts of the United States. It was a labor of love – he enjoyed working on farm equipment and taking care of farmers’ needed repairs. Taking care of tractors and combines to keep the farmers running in their fields was his mission. During the Spring planting season and the Fall harvest, there was little down-time and Max did not mind the long hours. He went to work every day making machines work and farmers happy!

A charter member of the Tip-Wa Antique Tractor and Engine Club, Max was also a member of the Pioneer Power of Northcentral Indiana. He won many awards for his 1968 Allis Chalmers and 1946 Massy Harris that he restored as well as his garden tractors. He took his tractors to numerous antique tractor shows throughout the Midwest. He also enjoyed his toy tractor collection and kept many on display.

Max was a longtime member of the Main Street United Methodist Church. He was 50-year+ member of the local Masonic Lodge of the Indiana Free & Accepted Masons as well as a 50-year member of the Royal Center Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. Max was active in the former Logansport Lions Club and served as the District 25-C Governor in 1995-1996.

On July 1, 1989, at the Onward Christian Church, he was married to Gloria K. (Vore) Snider, who survives. Pastor Larry Brandon officiated at the wedding.

Max and Gloria traveled to most all of the 50 states. They spent several winters in Florida and also traveled to Cancun, Canada and Alaska as well as Seoul, South Korea. Max enjoyed over 20 years of camping along the Wabash River.

After his retirement, he continued to stay busy repairing lawnmowers in his garage. Even folks from other states would call him for repair advice.

One of his favorite activities was maintaining the Carousel Train set at Riverside Park for many years. Recently, the Cass County Carousel Board voted to dedicate the train in honor of Max.

Surviving with his beloved wife, Gloria Snider, are his three children, Carrie (Scott) Weaver, Douglas (Jenny) Snider, and Holly Knight. Also surviving are Gloria’s children, who he loved as if they were his own, Tammy (Tim) Shrock, Michelle Burton, and Danelle White. He was the beloved “Grandpa” to fourteen grandchildren – Bri (Jordan) Price, Ian Weaver, Sam Snider, Gracie Snider, Emma Snider, Jason Knight, Alexis Knight, Joe Shrock, Nathan (Melissa) Shrock, Abby Mae Shrock, Jeremy Burton, Alexandra Burton, Zach White and Erica White. He was also very proud to be a great grandpa to Eli Chase Price. Max is also survived by his beloved dog, Sadie.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Terry Dean Snider, who died in a tragic automobile accident in 2008, that also claimed the life of Terry’s daughter and son-in-law, Trina and Gary Stonebraker. Max’s sister-in-law, Donna Snider, survives along with his nephew, Terry Edward Snider.

Visitation hours will be held from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, September 23 in Fisher Funeral Chapel.

A funeral service celebrating Max’s life will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 24 in the funeral chapel with Pastor Doug Thomas officiating.

Burial, with full military honors, will follow in the Center Cemetery, Young America. Honors will be accorded by the U.S. Army, the Cass County Honor Guard with participation from the Indiana Patriot Guard.
