Steven Roy Sheetz, 79, passed peacefully into the loving arms of our Lord on the morning of September 17, 2022.

He was born July 21, 1943, to Roy and Phyllis (Smith) Sheetz.  Steve grew up in Rochester, Indiana delivering newspapers and spending time at Sheetz Machine and Welding Shop.  He married Gladys (Lowery) Sheetz, the five foot two eyes of blue girl from the back of the school bus, on April 13, 1963, at Burton United Methodist Church.

Steve started as a radio repairman with Delco Electronics in 1968 and retired in 1998, but he never stopped playing with electric circuits and radios.  He was active with amateur radio (K9TQQ) and could talk in Morse code.  Steve was a member of Galveston United Methodist Church for 55 years and spent many of those years in the church’s sound booth, developing the tools as technology expanded and organizing a tape ministry.  He took great pleasure in riding his bike and spending time camping and canoeing.  Steve loved building, repairing, and deconstructing to reconstruct.  He would spend a dollar to save a dime if it meant he could do it himself.

While Steve was robbed of his memory, he never stopped finding comfort with family.  He and Gladys always made an extra effort to support their kids and grandkids with their education and extracurriculars.  Steve is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Rhonda Sheetz, and his daughter, Teresa Sheetz Brewer.  He is also survived by his nine grandchildren Jason (Ashley) Sheetz, Breanna (Schuylar) Hostetler, Madison (Ramon) Hernandez, Dylan Stevens, Cloe Stevens, Marissa Brewer, Brandon Brewer, Spencer Stevens, and Elijah Sheetz.  He also leaves behind four great-grandchildren, Ava Ellinger, Parker Sheetz, Tiago Hernandez, and Ryleigh Hostetler.

Steve was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gladys, and his parents.  Steve’s siblings, John Sheetz and Charlene Cole also met him at the gates of Heaven.

A celebration of life will be held at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2022, at Galveston United Methodist Church, with Pastor Jeff Russell officiating. Friends are invited to visit with the family before the service, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Galveston United Methodist Church.  Murray Weaver Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements. www.murrayweaverfuneralhome.com
