The upcoming Super Mario Bros movie has finally unveiled the first trailer – and the official title has been announced, too!

The anticipated animated movie is set to see Chris Pratt voice the iconic Nintendo character, though the look of the project and how the actors will sound has so far remained under wraps until today.

This first-look footage, which debuted on Thursday (October 6) at New York Comic-Con and was introduced by Nintendo boss Shigeru Miyamoto, confirmed the film is called The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

Jack Black voices the towering Bowser leading an army of Koopas to invade the Snow Kingdom, before the clip cuts to Mario (Pratt) meeting up with Toad (Keegan-Michael Key) for the first time.

And, perhaps most exciting, a stinger on the trailer reveals there will be a sequence set in Luigi's Mansion!

Alongside Pratt, the movie is set to star Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi and Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong.

The Mario actor recently teased what his voice would be like for the Italian plumber, revealing that it will be different from what you'd expect.

"I worked really closely with the directors and trying out a few things and landed on something that I’m really proud of and can’t wait for people to see and hear," Pratt told Variety.

"It's an animated voiceover narrative. It's not a live-action movie. I'm not gonna be wearing a plumber suit running all over. I'm providing a voice for an animated character, and it is updated and unlike anything you've heard in the Mario world before."

However, Pratt's casting has stirred some controversy, though producer Chris Meledandri has defended the choice of actor.

"As a person who has Italian American heritage, I feel I can make that decision without about offending Italians or Italian Americans," he said earlier this year. "I think we're gonna be just fine. Especially because [Pratt's] given such a strong performance."

The Super Mario Bros. film is expected to be released on April 7, 2023 in the US.
