The Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) announces the hiring of Pete Pyrzenski as the newest member of its member services consulting team. In this role, he will support cities specifically in north Georgia but also all of Georgia’s 537 member cities. Duties include connecting cities with technical assistance, innovative solutions, advocacy and services for their local communities.
Pyrzenski plans to transition to his new position on October 17.
“It’s an honor to join GMA to advocate for and support the cities in districts 1 & 2 and throughout the state,” Pyrzenski said. “GMA is a leader in providing innovative programs, advocacy and services to cities. I am excited to use my extensive municipal leadership experience to help city leaders connect with the many programs provided by GMA that will make their cities better.”
Pyrzenski is an experienced city leader and military veteran with more than two decades of city government experience as a public works director and city manager. Before joining GMA, Pyrzenski served as the City of Tifton’s city manager for six years. During his tenure, Pyrzenski revamped Tifton’s budget process, streamlined accounts and department reporting, reorganized departments and personnel saving over $800K in revenue. In addition, he addressed health care and retirement for the organization and captured $1.1M in savings while enhancing both benefits and options for all employees and worked closely with several state and federal agencies. Before Tifton, Pyrzenski also served as city manager for the cities of Commerce and Waycross. He’s also held roles as department of public works director for nearly 8 years with the City of Valdosta as well as private sector roles.
“GMA is excited to welcome Pete to the team,” said Pam Helton, Director of Member Services for GMA. “Pete will provide strong leadership to our membership consultant team and serve as a valuable resource for our cities and add tremendous value to our organization as we strive to provide premier advocacy, services, and innovation to Georgia’s cities.”
Pyrzenski holds a masters in public administration from Valdosta State University and a B.A. degree from the University of North Florida. Pyrzenski is a proud veteran and retired captain of the U.S. Army Reserve and officer for the U.S. Navy.
