Pedestrian killed in crash on I-35 southbound frontage road at Braker Lane

The City of Austin's Transportation Department said more than 69 people have been killed on Austin roadways this year.

AUSTIN, Texas — A pedestrian was killed early Friday morning in a crash on the Interstate 35 southbound frontage road at Braker Lane.

The City of Austin's Transportation Department initially reported the crash just after 7 a.m., telling morning commuters to consider alternate routes. By 7:17 a.m., TxDOT Austin said the frontage road was closed due to the crash.

At 8:14 a.m., the Transportation Department said the crash had resulted in a pedestrian death.

"We've lost over 69 people on Austin roadways this year," the department said in a tweet. "Avoid the area. Be a part of the solution by driving slower and without distractions."

On Tuesday, Sept. 20, the Austin Police Department said that a Sept. 17 crash was being investigated as the city's 74th fatal crash of the year, resulting in 76 deaths. On Sept. 17, 2021, there had been 81 fatal crashes resulting in 87 deaths.
