According to Shipley Do-Nuts manager Montip Mahasena, the new landlord suggested they move to the end cap. They presented the move to Shipley Do-Nuts corporate, who agreed with the change. “The corporate people said it’s a good idea. It’s a good move because we’re going to have a drive-thru window for the customers,” Mahasena told What Now Houston.

The new, nearly 1,600-square-foot space will undergo an interior fit-out for the grab-and-go donut shop to include the new drive-thru window. Mahasena said they haven’t started construction yet, so the move might not happen until the end of 2022 or in early 2023. That all depends on if supply chain issues or staffing shortages disrupt the opening.

Mahasena said the move shouldn’t disrupt operations for too long. Once an opening date it set, she thinks they might have to close the existing location for about a week to move into the new space.

Kolaches and a variety of donuts are on the Shipley Do-Nuts menu including glazed, iced with sprinkles, crème-filled, and cake. Bear claws, cinnamon rolls, and twists are also options, plus coffee.

The original “do-nut” recipe was developed by Lawrence Shipley Sr. in 1936, and he later opened the first Shipley Do-Nuts in Houston. The franchise now has more than 350 restaurants across nearly a dozen states.
