UPDATE: 4 dead in Oak Forest barricade situation, house fire, ME Office says

OAK FOREST (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Four people are dead in southwest suburban Oak Forest after a domestic disturbance Friday morning led to fatal gunfire, a barricade situation, and a house fire.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office have confirmed the deaths of four people from Friday’s morning scene at Ann Marie Lane near Natalie Drive, just east of Central Avenue.

Video footage from a nearby Ring doorbell camera, obtained by CBS-2, showed people running out of the home, being chased by a man. Then, it appeared that the people being chased suddenly collapsed to the ground.

A city spokesperson said the incident started as a domestic situation with a report of gunfire. Officers responded to the home a little after 6:30 a.m., and found three gunshot victims outside of the house. City officials said two of the victims were found in the driveway, while a third was discovered on a street south of the home.

With the alleged shooter still at the home, officers took three victims into squad cars and went to a safer area to apply first aid. An Oak Forest spokesperson said the victims were then transported to area hospitals, but they later died from their injuries. The names of the three victims will not be released until their next of kin are notified, the city said.

Back at the home, law enforcement quickly learned the suspect had barricaded himself inside. It was then, the city official said, the South Suburban Emergency Response Team was put in place and a shelter in place order was issued for other area homes and the local schools.

During this chaotic scene, a child was let out of the house and evacuated to safety, the Oak Forest spokesperson said. Shortly thereafter, officers began to see smoke and flames coming from the home’s front window.

According to the city, police found the fourth dead victim a few hours later, after crews put out the fire and officers were able to enter the house. Oak Forest police believe at this time that the fourth victim was the shooter, the city said.

The identity of the shooter will not be made public until there is confirmation from the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, the spokesperson said.

This remains an active investigation and Oak Forest police are asking anyone with information to contact Detective Sergeant Ryan Burnett- 708-687-1376 or rburnett@oak-forest.org.
