Early voting begins Friday for the November general election.
However, this is the first time the City of Lynchburg is holding local elections in November.
The City of Lynchburg has 55,000 registered voters and that number has grown over the last two years.
Christine Gibbons with the Lynchburg Registrar's Office attributes the growth to the city itself growing with new housing and construction.
In January of 2021, the Virginia Senate passed legislation to move all May local elections to November.
On your ballot, you'll be voting for a U.S. House of Representative member and City Council.
Gibbons said normally when local elections are in May the turnout is about 30%, but now she thinks that number will go up.
"All of the City Council ones have been moved from May to November so we'll have to see what those numbers are. I'm anticipating about the same in what we had in the turn out from November 2021 which was about 60%," Gibbons said.
Gibbons expects over the next 45 days that 25 to 50 people a day will come through their doors. She adds in Lynchburg 20 to 30% of voters take advantage of early voting and the other 30% will go to the polls.
If you aren't voting early in person, the deadline to apply for a vote by mail ballot is Friday, October 28.
The City of Lynchburg Registrar's office is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
