Traffic stop leads to arrest on gun, drug allegations

PARADISE — An early morning traffic stop Thursday led to the arrest of two people in Paradise.

According to the Paradise Police Department, at about 2:45 a.m. Thursday, an officer was conducting a routine patrol when he reportedly saw a speeding vehicle in the 35 mph zone of Pentz Road and pulled the vehicle over.

Police say that when the officer approached the car he saw two men crouched down and making sneaky movements. The officer reportedly approached the car and cautiously contacted both occupants, patted both men down for weapons and seated them at the curb.

Police say the two men in the vehicle were Brent D. Neville, 36, and Eric P. Brewer, 46.

The officer was reportedly alerted by K-9 Phoenix that there were narcotics in the vehicle. Based on that, police say they searched the vehicle and allegedly found 204 grams (nearly half a pound) of suspected methamphetamine; 5 grams of suspected heroin; a loaded, “ghost gun” pistol without a serial number; a pocket scale and hundreds of dollars in cash in various denominations.

Police say that the total amount of suspected narcotics is equal to about 1,500 to 2,000 uses of controlled substances. Paradise police say they have no tolerance for narcotics trafficking and that both methamphetamine and heroin represent a significant public health concern to the town.

Both men were placed under arrest for suspicion of drug sales and possession of a weapon.
