Debra Lee Heft Taylor, 64, of Morgantown, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2022, in Charleston, S.C.
Born on May 17, 1958, in Morgantown, she was the daughter of the late Esther Heft (Pickenpaugh) and John David Heft Sr.
Debra attended University High School and then the West Virginia Career College, where she received associate degrees in business administration and information technology. For many years, she was an employee of the Morgantown Utility Board.
Debra was an avid reader, with a love for her cats and for visiting her daughter and grandchildren in South Carolina. She enjoyed all kinds of music, from Elvis to Van Halen. Like a true Heft, she never met a stranger. She had an infectious laugh, and she could be counted on to give everyone the latest regarding the weather and local police activity, as heard on her scanner.
Debra is preceded in death by Esther Heft (mother), John David Heft (father) and James Heft (brother).
Debra is survived by her husband, James Taylor; her daughters, Tammy Galuska (Chad) and Michelle Morris (Steve); her two grandsons, Evan and Owen Galuska; and her siblings, John Heft and Patricia Royce.
An intimate memorial service will be held on a date that is to be determined. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Senior Monongalians or to Animal Friends of North Central WV.
