BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Melbourne Police Department SWAT team responded to 401 Poinciana Drive in reference to a man pointing a gun at the 911 caller while making threats to harm.

Melbourne Police Lt. Ryan Schorert said the suspect is identified as 32-year-old Adam Williams, who was charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Battery and Resisting Without Violence.

“The victim caller was able to separate from the armed man, and officers swiftly surrounded the residence and attempted to call the man outside,” said Lt. Schorert.

“The Crisis Negotiation Unit (CNU) and SWAT officers were called out to assist with the incident, as other people were believed to be inside the residence with the armed man. Officers and detectives began interviewing the victim and witnesses.”

According to Lt. Schorert, detectives learned the initial dispute between the victim and the armed man was over car keys. Shortly after the victim recovered his keys and was leaving the property, the suspect pointed what appeared to be a brown semi-automatic handgun at the victim.

“CNU negotiators were able to establish a dialogue with the armed man,” Lt. Schorert.

“During negotiations, all other occupants were able to exit the residence unharmed, a brown handgun was recovered by SWAT officers, and the armed man surrendered without further incident. It was later discovered the brown handgun was actually a realistic-looking pellet gun.”

Lt. Schorert said this appears to be an isolated incident and there is no indication of other threats in this area.
