Blue Ridge Community College has launched a program to collect oral and visual histories of people from western North Carolina.
It's called the Blue Ridge Local History Project, and it's funded by a grant called Bright Ideas.
Participants will be able to share stories in the project's new recording studio, along with photos and other visual items for the digital collection.
They'll be preserved at BRCC to serve as a resource for students and the community alike.
“We’re just very excited about this program. It gives us an opportunity to really get out into the community, to connect with the community, to have people share their stories, and to really elevate our education practices and to give us a really good resource for the college and the community," said Anthony Baltiero, director of Library Services at BRCC.
The initial focus of the project will be on Henderson and Transylvania counties, with plans to expand.
