La Plata R-2 School administrators were taking extra precautions Thursday after a suspicious incident near campus on Wednesday.
La Plata Superintendent, Dr. John Wiggans, told KTVO a suspicious-acting man in an older model car with Washington state license plates had been driving around campus on Wednesday and stopping near La Plata High School.
A post on the school's Facebook page said there was no direct or intentional threat to the school or students, but to be proactive, the district was limiting movement of students outside the buildings on Thursday.
Wiggans said those students who needed to move from one building to another were being bused instead of letting them walk.
La Plata Police Chief Jason Bunch said his department had been doing increased patrols around the schools on Thursday.
The superintendent said an investigation by the school and law enforcement revealed that a female La Plata High School student had been communicating online with the driver of the suspicious car.
That girl was not harmed, and the man had not made in-person contact with her at school.
