The Wyler Tramway and the Franklin Mountains have released their October events.
Below is a list of what is happening at both Franklin Mountains and the virtual programs for Wyler Tramway for this month.
Raccoon Fun Facts
- Fri. Oct. 7 at 12 pm
- This is their monthly fun facts video, this month we are featuring raccoons!
- The video will be posted on the Tramway's Facebook and Instagram accounts.
Women Hike - Upper Sunset Trail
- Sun. Oct. 9 at 8:30am
- Moderate 1.3 mile hike. The trail will encounter some short steep inclines/declines, some rough rocky sections, and great views as we walk along the ridgeline.
- Meeting point is at the end of Tom Mays Rd.
- Bring: water, sun protection, comfortable and weather appropriate clothing, snacks (optional).
- Fees: $8 anyone 13 years of age or older, $3 Texas State Park Pass holders, $1 children between the ages of 5 and 12.

Ask the Expert: Franklin Mountains State Park
- Fri. Oct. 21 at 2 pm
- It's the monthly virtual Q&A; this month Park Rangers from Franklin Mountains State Park will be joining us to talk about the park and answer your questions.

Tin Mine Hike
- Sat. Oct. 22 at 8am
- This is a moderate to difficult 6 mile hike. We will hike on an old jeep road with a gentle but steady climb.
- The meeting point is at Chuck Heinrich Memorial Park on the Northeast side of the mountains.
- Bring: water, sun protection, comfortable and weather appropriate clothing, snacks (optional), flashlights.
- Fees: $8 anyone 13 years of age or older, $3 Texas State Park Pass holders, $1 children between the ages of 5 and 12. Please bring exact change or a check as park rangers are unable to make change. You can also pay the fees ahead of time at the park's visitor center at the Tom Mays unit.

Pollinator BioBlitz Hikes
- Sun. Oct. 23
- 11am - Nature Walk
- 11:30am - Tom Mays trail
- Texas Pollinator BioBlitz is almost over but if you want to add a few more observations join us for any of these 2 easy hikes.
- Bring: water, sun protection, comfortable and weather appropriate clothing, snacks (optional).
- Fees: $8 anyone 13 years of age or older, $3 Texas State Park Pass holders, $1 children between the ages of 5 and 12.
Bat Walk
- Thur. Oct. 27 at 4:30pm
- The walk will begin the evening with a short presentation about bats at the Interpretive building in the Tom Mays unit to learn more about our local flying mammals.
- Afterwards we will car pool down to the Nature Walk for a bat walk. This will be a short and easy 0.75 miles through low hills and a desert wash. We will be using an echo meter to detect bat calls in the vicinity.
- Bring: water, snacks, and comfortable clothes.
- Fees: $5 anyone 13 years of age or older, Free for Texas State Park Pass holders and children under 12 years of age.
- Remember the Tom Mays Unit gate closes at 5pm, so come early to ensure entrance. We will let bat walk participants out after 5pm when the presentation and hike are done.
Peak Challenge - North Franklin Peak
- Sat. Oct. 29 at 8am
- Strenuous 8 mile hike. We begin with a gradual incline over scree/rubble then we transition to a steady climb over loose rocks. Continue to meander across the ridgeline to the highest peak in the park.
- Bring: water 2-4 litters, snacks and/or a sack lunch, hiking boots/shoes, comfortable clothes. Hikers with less than 1.5 litters of water or inadequate gear will not be allowed to attempt this hike.
- Fees: $8 anyone 13 years of age or older, $3 Texas State Park Pass holders, $1 children between the ages of 5 and 12. Please bring exact change or a check as park rangers are unable to make change. We recommend to pay your fees ahead of time as the park's office opens at 8am.

Halloween Fest
Sun. Oct. 30 10am - 2pm
Are you ready for some spooky fun?! Join us for our Annual Halloween Fest! Learn about our local creepy crawlies from our different exhibitors, make a coffin pie, or even participate on our carved pumpkin contest!
Carved Pumpkin Contest
- Pumpkins must be brought carved and ready to display by 9:30am
- Display and voting will take place from 10am to 1:30pm
- Winners will be announced at 2pm on the park's social media.

Coffin Pies
