Rose earns all-state honors

Posted

WRIGHT – The Niobrara County Tiger Golf Team concluded its 2022 fall season on Sept. 16-17 in Wright.

The Hay Creek Golf Course provided a stern challenge to the 37 2A boys in attendance. The thick rough, fast greens and state championship nerves resulted in higher than usual scores.

The first day greeted the golfers with cooler temperatures and threatening skies, but the weather held off just long enough for them to complete their opening rounds.

Junior Camden Rose fired a back nine 43 to shoot 90 and put himself into a tie for sixth. Cory Bruegger shot a season high 106 but still found himself in 21st place and within striking distance of the top 10. Nathan Fish got his first ever state tournament action with an opening round of 147.

The second day was a picture-perfect weather day with mild temperatures and low winds. Fish showed his consistency with a 148 to finish in 35th place. Bruegger improved with a 103 to finish in the top 20 for the second consecutive year. Rose completed his fall season by earning all-state honors. Rose shot a second-day 91 to claim ninth.

Facing a tight race at the end, Rose got up-and-down from 80 yards to secure the honors. After placing his wedge shot to eight feet, Rose calmly rolled in the putt to finish the round.

With no seniors on the roster, the Tigers are looking forward to collecting more hardware in the future.
