MACON, Ga. (WGXA) -- The unemployment rate in Macon is at 3.5% as of the end of August, which is up two-tenths of a percent over the previous month, yet still lower when compared to August of 2021's rate of 4.3%, according to Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler.

“As we look toward the fall, we are committed to supporting the workforce as employers search for seasonal, full-time, and part-time employees to fill vacancies in preparation for the holiday employment season,” Butler says.
By the end of last month, there were 99,618 employed Maconites, 2,155 more than last year, seeing a drop of just over 700 employees since July.
