Sheppard WNBA title Pic

Former Virginia Tech women’s basketball guard Aisha Sheppard, one of the best three-point scorers in both program and ACC history, recently capped off her rookie season with the Las Vegas Aces with a WNBA Championship.

The Aces defeated the Connecticut Sun in a best-of-five series, winning game four by a score of 78–71 to clinch the title. This is the first championship won by the Aces in their 25 year existence.

The series was highlighted by performances from forward A’ja Wilson, who averaged a double-double in the postseason, and guard Chelsea Gray, who averaged 21.7 points per game while shooting over 50% from three-point range during the playoffs.

Sheppard finished her season averaging 1.5 points per game in 7.6 minutes per game. For a young player looking to make a name for herself in the WNBA and hopefully get more playing time, a championship isn’t a bad place to start.
