For the first time since June 26, Harrison Bader finally got the chance to suit up in a Major League uniform.
Bader was traded to the New York Yankees, who sent left-hander Jordan Montgomery back to the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange.
Bader was out with plantar fasciitis.
Last night, the Bronxville native finally made his Yankees debut.
Donning No. 22, Bader batted seventh for the Yankees, picking up two hits, scoring a run, and driving in three runs in his four at-bats.
Bader also joined an elite group of former Yankees to have worn No. 22 that includes Roger Clemens, Jacoby Ellsbury, Andruw Jones, and several others.
Bader Makes Yankees Debut
It looks like Bader is trying to put a little more respect on the number 22.
For him to get a chance to wear the number that was worn by Clemens himself is exciting.
He wore No. 48 during his time in St. Louis.
He had a pretty good first game wearing No. 22 as a Yankee.
Clemens is obviously the biggest name to have worn that number as a Yankee, but Bader may be the next.
He’s a five-tool player who has great speed, a solid bat at the plate, and a solid glove and arm.
He was a Gold Glove Award winner last season with St. Louis.
Ultimately, the Yankees can finally experience the benefits of having Bader on their side.
For some time, it looked like the Cardinals had won the trade.
But after last night’s game, it doesn’t appear to be such a lopsided trade anymore.
Bader is off to a good start as a Yankee and has given them an upgrade in the outfield.
We’ll see how things shake out.
