Child in critical condition after being struck by car while riding electric scooter in Brooklyn

An 11-year-old boy is in critical condition after he was hit by a car while riding an electric scooter in Bensonhurst Wednesday night.

An 11-year-old boy is in critical condition after he was hit by a car while riding an electric scooter in Bensonhurst Wednesday night.
Police say the incident took place before 8 p.m. on 19th Avenue and 81st Street. The child was not wearing a helmet and has serious head and body injuries, according to authorities.
The driver had the right of way when the child rode his scooter onto the street. Police add the driver attempted to swerve and that's when the child was hit.
The driver stayed at the scene.
