UPDATE: The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting in Bibb County.
Preliminary information indicates police conducted a traffic stop on a driver identified as Dale Watson, 31, for a traffic violation.
Watson refused to stop and sped away, according to the GBI.
There was a short vehicle pursuit that led to Watson eventually crashing at the intersection of Coliseum Drive and Emery Highway. Watson got out of his car, pointed a handgun, and shot at the deputies. Deputies returned fire and chased Watson as he ran away from the crash site. Within moments, deputies captured Watson.
Watson was taken to a local hospital where he was eventually released with no injuries.
Watson was subsequently taken to Bibb County LEC/Detention Center where he was detained. Watson faces multiple charges stemming from this incident.
No deputies were injured.

MACON, Ga. (WGXA) - Areas near Emery Highway and Coliseum Drive are blocked off after a deputy and a suspect exchanged gunfire today.
In a press release, the Bibb County Sheriff's Office says a deputy made a traffic stop on a vehicle just before 5 p.m. this evening.
The release says when the vehicle pulled over, the driver got out of the vehicle and shot at the deputy.
The deputy then returned fire, but neither were shot in the incident.
Officials say the man was injured while resisting arrest.
He was taken to a local hospital for his injuries.
The case has been turned over to the GBI for investigation.
